The Real Cost of Cap and Trade

Last week CBS News reported that an internal Obama administration study by the Treasury Department estimated that Cap and Trade would cost the average family $1,762 per year.

This estimate was not previously released.  In June, when the House of Representatives passed Cap and Trade the margin was very close.  The final vote was 219 to 212 with 218 needed for passage.  During the debate, Representatives relied on a cost estimate of about $800 per household.  This is obviously too low but here’s the best part.

The Obama administration had the higher estimate during the debate but never released it.  If they had, Cap and Trade would have failed.  They allowed their fellow Democrats and seven stupid Republicans to cast a vote that was wildly unpopular at home based on a false cost estimate.  Now that the truth is coming out, those that supported the President will have a lot more explaining to do.  Not all of the Democrats fell for it.

Forty-four House Democrats voted against it and are probably breathing a sigh of relief they did.  I hope the seven Republicans are sweating because as bad as this new number is, it may be conservative.  Some estimates of the cost of Cap and Trade to the average household run as high as $3,100 per year.  Is this the responsible government we voted for?

Does President Obama really expect to get enough votes for this ridiculous bill to pass the Senate now that the truth is coming out?  How many votes will he be able to get by arm-twisting for his health care proposals.?  President Obama has demonstrated a complete disregard for his fellow party members and their chance at reelection.  He will gladly throw all of them under the bus to secure his agenda at any cost.

Unless the Democrat Party wants to become a party people talk about in the same breath as the Federalists and the Whigs they need to abandon this idiotic, job-killing, power-grabbing agenda and start working for the American people.  Do they not remember what happened to the Republicans when they began to act like Democrats?  What will happen to the Democrats for acting worse?

Cap and trade is far too costly for Americans. We have to let Congress know how we feel about the disastrous effects of this legislation. Write your Senators at http://tiny.cc/pxIgi.
