The Circus Comes to New York

The decision by President Obama to try Khalid Sheik Mohammed in Federal court in New York city promises to bring a three ring circus to town and play out the gross spectacle near the site of his most infamous act.

When Zacarias Moussaoui, the so called twentieth hijacker was tried under the same circumstances the trial took four years to play out even though Moussaoui had confessed.  He regaled the court with diatribes and is still playing the system by trying to recant his confession.  But the KSM trial promises to bring on a show like O. J. on steroids.  The CIA, the United States armed forces, the Bush administration and enhanced interogation will be on trial more than the terrorists.  All of this will no doubt delight President Obama’s radical leftist friends.  But while the “blame America first crowd” are chuckling at the denigration of America in general and the Bush administration in particular, who else will be suffering?

The families of the victims of the 9/11 attacks will be forced to relive the entire ordeal.  The will have to look at years of Khalid Sheik Mohammed mocking their loved ones.  Why?  This is totally unnecessary.  This was not a criminal act.  These men, unlike Zacarias Moussaoui, were not arrested on American soil.  These men were captured after an incredibly vicious act of war.  They were captured on the battlefield.  There is no reason these men shouldn’t be tried by military tribunals.  There is no reason to grant them the honor of a trial by an American civilian court of law.

These terrorists were not uniformed members of an enemy nation’s armed forces.  Therefore, they do not qualify for any protections under the Geneva Convention.  They are illegal enemy combatants, like spies or saboteurs and can be tried by a military tribunal and executed in the same manner Nazi saboteurs who landed by submarine in the United States during World War II were tried and executed by Franklin Roosevelt.  That case was reviewed by the Supreme Court at the time and approved thereby setting the precedent.

President Obama is getting pushback on this.  Among those pushing back are the families and friends of the victims of 9/11.

A petition has been started and signed by many of the family and friends of these victims.  I urge you to go to the website (the link is below) and sign the petition.  Email this column to your friends and family and urge them to do the same.  Let President Obama know we do not appreciate this reckless, ridiculous, act just to appease his anti-American friends.

The President and his advisors seem to have an unending capacity to shock the sensibilities of Americans.  They apparently believe they can get away with one insult to America after another and one massive attempt at reshaping American society after another.  They have to get the message that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
