More Lawyers Hinder The War on Terror

In 2004 in Fallujah, Iraq, four American contractors working for Blackwater USA as security guards were captured by terrorists, killed, mutilated, their bodies burned and dragged through the streets before being hung from a bridge.
Now comes word from Fox News that the mastermind of this atrocity, Ahmed Hashim Abed, has been secretly captured by a team of U. S. Navy Seals working in Iraq in September. Is the Obama administration planning to hand out medals to the members of the team? Or perhaps they plan a unit citation. Sadly, three of the members of this brave team of Special Operators are facing a court martial because this terrorist dirt bag claims they gave him a fat lip.
This is what has become of the war on terror. Whether Abed got a fat lip in custody or not is really beside the point. Like the Gitmo detainees that will be coming to New York for a full civilian trial, these are illegal enemy combatants. Let me repeat that - ILLEGAL ENEMY COMBATANTS. They have no status for protection.
Because of this status, which no one can deny, the are not entitled to the protections the Geneva Convention conveys to prisoners of war. Because they were taken on foreign battlefields during a war, they are not, and should not be treated as, criminal defendants. Legally, they could have been summarily executed. This used to be the treatment for spies, who fall under the same category. But President Obama has other plans.
He has turned the conduct of the war over to the ACLU, the Department of Justice, and the trial lawyers of America. God help us. Of course this is not the first time we have seen this nonsense. The Bush administration had its share too. Remember the accusations leveled against the Marines by Rep. Murtha over events at Haditha?
President Obama, in a bid to lecture us how we should behave toward the enemy, once called on the example of Winston Churchill. All this did was show once again he has no grasp of history. During World War II, Churchill’s government gave captured German spies a choice. They could turn on Hitler and become double agents, or they could step out back and be shot. Surprisingly, most decided to become double agents. They were used to great effect to help perpetrate the great deception that had Hitler convinced the real D-Day landings would come at Pas de Calais instead of Normandy.
If there is to be justice in this case it will come from the military. The defendants insisted on the court martial. I suggest we all keep our eye on this case. I believe in the end justice will be done but at what price. These brave men will have their careers ruined. They will be dragged through the mud for no good reason. And what about the others out there on the front lines of our defense?
Eric Holder has already let it be known he is considering prosecuting CIA agents who used enhanced interrogations that were authorized by the highest level of government. He is considering prosecuting even the lawyers who advised the highest levels of government. He is giving full constitutional rights to illegal enemy combatants responsible for mass slaughter of Americans. At this rate, how can we expect the men and women of the armed forces and our intelligence agencies to continue to risk their lives to defend us? Who would blame them if they refused?
